Hot Jobs of the Future
58Given the unstable U.S. economy and fear of a global recession, many Americans are facing job cuts and unemployment is at the highest it has been in years. Yet a handful of careers and occupations are expected to grow, even thrive in the upcoming year. Is one of them yours?
Delivery Services - The advent of the world wide web gave rise to online consumer shopping and internet retail sales continue to climb despite a slumping economy. Experts claim the convenience and ease it provides consumers attributes to its popularity and growth. As a result, delivery services such as FedEx, UPS, and even the Postal Service will enjoy growth over the next several years – good news for delivery persons, mechanics, and even pilots.
Entertainment Industry - The entertainment industry (including movies, books, and music) has a very promising outlook. Stark cultural differences and language barriers will keep much of the industry from moving offshore, creating more jobs throughout the country. Everything from writers to actors to publishers to graphic designers and everything in between will likely see steady work for the next decade.
Transportation and Truck Driving - The transportation industry and the truckers who drive it are literally the backbone of the American economy. Virtually everything that is sold to and used by consumers is at one point delivered by truck drivers. There is no other mode of the transportation that delivers directly door-to-door. And as more companies enlist the services of transportation firms, more truck driving jobs and administrative positions will be available.
Energy - With the immense attention global warming is amassing worldwide, alternative energy industries are likely to see massive growth despite a slow economy or impending recession. As the United States work to become energy independent, many companies (including major oil corporations) are exploring alternative energy sources such as solar and wind. In fact, the American Solar Energy Society predicts by the year 2030, one out four workers in the U.S. will be working in the renewable energy and energy efficiency industries.
Healthcare - Since people need healthcare no matter what the economic climate, healthcare will be a stable industry for years to come. Add in the aging population and healthcare instantly becomes a rapidly growing, lucrative industry to be a part of. Careers with particularly good outlook include home healthcare aides, nursing aides, and physical therapists.
